The Mégane III was first unveiled in 2008, going on sale in the UK in 2009. With a sleeker appearance compared to Mégane II and the option of either a hatchback or coupe for the first time, its styling took inspiration from the passion associated with the automobile, including cues from the world of sport. The Mégane II received a host of equipment normally associated with the next segment up, such as hands-free entry and ignition, automatic locking as the driver walks away from the car, a Carminat Bluetooth® DVD navigation system and a custom-developed audio system.
Like Mégane II, the Mégane III was also subject to upgrades from Renault Sport. The Mégane 275 Trophy-R – another step up in terms of performance from the Mégane II R26.R – lapped the Nürburgring Nordschleife in just 7.54’’36, the fastest time ever for a front-wheel drive production car, driven by Laurent Hurgon.
