Introduced in 2019, the fifth-generation Clio is the most advanced yet with a choice of efficient petrol, diesel and hybrid engines, a five-star Euro NCAP crash safety rating and a broad range of well-equipped specifications. Its interior boasts features usually reserved for larger and more expensive cars, while it’s also big on safety and technology, with all versions having such features as Active Emergency Braking System with pedestrian detection, Lane Keep Assist and Lane Departure Warning. The All-New Clio starts from £15,895 on the road.
Taking the honours in the ‘Best Small Family Car’ category, the New Captur impressed Carbuyer with its space, style and low running costs. On awarding the compact SUV, Richard Ingram added: The latest Renault Captur takes everything we love about the Clio and wraps it up in a desirable crossover body. This no-compromise SUV continues to impress thanks to its class-leading tech, spacious cabin and advanced powertrains. No small family car can match the Captur's far-reaching talents."
Unveiled at last year’s Frankfurt Motor Show, the second-generation New Captur builds on the original’s best-selling formula with significant advancements in driving aids, connectivity and comfort. As with the Clio, the Captur was also strengthened this summer with the addition of E-TECH technology. The new Captur E-TECH Plug-in hybrid offers up to 31 miles of electric range, and only 34g/km CO2. The Captur range starts at £19,095 on the road.
To represent the changes in the car market, Carbuyer expanded the categories covering electric cars for this year’s Best Car Awards. The ZOE added the newly introduced ‘Best Small Electric Car’ award to its huge trophy cabinet after Carbuyer praised the all-electric supermini for its combination of practicality and 245-mile real world range.
On the judging panel’s decision, Richard Ingram commented: “The Renault ZOE set the benchmark all others had to meet, and this second-generation model raises the bar once again. The ZOE offers a greater driving range than most of its rivals, in a well-equipped and easy-to-live-with package. It's the perfect first EV."
Extensively updated for 2020, the best-selling ZOE complements its impressive range with the ability to charge to 80% in just one hour and ten minutes via its new 50Kw DC charging option. The latest version also introduces such improvements as enhanced equipment, including full LED headlamps and a customisable 10-inch TFT instrument cluster as standard, and a completely redesigned interior. Available from £26,995 on the road after the Plug-in Car Grant, the New ZOE combines an excellent specification, immense usability and value.
The annual Carbuyer Best Car Awards celebrate the best new cars on sale in the UK, with this year’s awards spanning 21 categories.
Vincent Tourette, Managing Director, Groupe Renault UK, said: “We are exceptionally pleased to win these awards, which are a great reward for our commitment to exceeding our customers’ expectations. With the Clio, Captur and ZOE, our small car family has never been stronger, and whether customers are looking for electric, hybrid or traditional engines, we are able to offer innovative, class-leading vehicles.”
