Renault 5 - 1973

Renault 5

The Renault 5, launched in 1973, had a longitudinal engine, unlike its competitors. This, however, did not compromise on legroom despite the 5’s compact dimensions. The 5 was a typical Renault in many aspects – soft suspension, smooth ride, comfortable, versatile and assured handling. A ‘twist and pull’ gear lever emerging from the dash was the same one as used on the Renault 6. The 5 went on to become a cult classic, spawning infamous sporting versions such as the Renault 5 Turbo and winning the Monte Carlo Rally.

Mégane Trophy - The star of the show

Continuing the sporting tradition of the Renault 5 Turbo, Alpine, Spider and Clio V6, all of which made their marks on European race tracks over the last 25 years, the Mégane Trophy - unveilled at next week's Paris Motor Show - is set to take to the grid in 2005.
